 Buka
Buka is located
on an island to the north of Bougainville. One of the PMG Monitoring
Teams (MT Buka) was located here. I only visited this location
once. Buka was a thriving little town that had a port, airport,
chemist, banks and a number of other shops. It seems Buka wasn't
as affect by the crisis as towns like Arawa. The team here had
internet access and there was even a local telephone exchange
and police station.
The shopping
in Buka was a lot better than Arawa and the local markets had
a wide range of goods for sale. Buka had the best local amenities
of all the Monitoring Team sites.
