Gecko HouseClub Gecko II
(Gecko House)
Gecko House was home for my whole deployment in Bougainville. We had up to seven people living in the house. The occupants were mostly linesmen (guys who install and fix cables) but also the commanders driver, myself and a WO2 technician, who all worked out of HQ PMG.

The house was a three bedroom tropical stilt house not far from HQ PMG. The bathroom and toilet were tiny but we had a large living room and balcony. Most of our meals were had out on the balcony. We had a TV and video player for entertainment as there was not local TV to watch. Downstairs was a bit of a gym and a BBQ, out the back was a volleyball court, guards sac sac (local hut) and our generator hut.

We had a decent kitchen but most of our meals were cooked at a kitchen in Loloho and picked up. The fridge always had plenty of food. Every Sunday we would get a large BBQ pack a have a big cook up under the house. The local girls volleyball team used our court in the backyard regularly. We tried to take them on a couple of times but they were very good.

My wife Kellie was in Bougainville in the year 2000 and she also lived in Gecko house.
